The 14th annual Trinity County Plant and Seed Exchange

The Trinity County Resource Conservation District, the University of California Cooperation Extension Master Gardeners Program, and the Young Family Ranch Trust present a fun-filled Earth Day celebration at the Young Family Ranch! The Annual Trinity County Plant & Seed Exchange will take place at 260 Oregon St in Weaverville on April 22, 2023 from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Join us for free activities for all ages, plants and seeds for sharing and exchanging, gardening talks, raffle prizes, informational booths, children’s crafts with Trinity Arts & Crafts Supply Co., food from The Mountain Market, drinks from The Water Bar, beer & wine served by the North Fork Grange and Ascend Wilderness Experience, and live music from Stormy Weather Rhythm Band from 11:00 am-1:00 pm.

Featured Gardening Talks Include:

10:00 am - “You Had Me at Aloe” with Susan Cousins & Carol Fall, covering inside and outside varieties of succulents, care, and a re-potting demonstration.

11:00 am - “Soil is Key” with Carol Fall, covering Trinity County soils and amending them for gardening.

11:30 am - “Gardening is For the Birds” with Pat Frost, covering landscaping for birds and feed placement.

12:00 pm - “Wisdom of the Vine” with Andrew Nelson, covering wine grape physiology and pruning basics.

12:30 pm - “Too Many Tomatoes to Count” with Irl Everest, covering the raising of different varieties.

1:00 pm - “From Seed, or Not From Seed” with Kaety Howard, covering growing native woody plants from seeds and cuttings, followed by a Native Plant Nursery tour.

Raffle items include; Turtle Bay Exploration Park tickets, Gardening Gift Baskets, Soil Analysis Kits, Soils and Amendments, 1,000ft of Irrigation Tubing and more!

Bring your excess plant starts and bulbs (disease and pest-free, please), seeds, and smiles to share as we learn, live, and grow together on Earth Day.

The 13th annual Trinity County Plant and Seed Exchange

The 13th Annual Plant and Seed Exchange will be held on Saturday, April 16th from 10am to 2pm. Participants can bring healthy plants, seeds, and cuttings to share with the community. Staff are working closely with UCCE CalFresh and Master Gardeners to plan the event. In addition to trading and sharing plants, there will be informational booths, vendors, activities for kids, and a demonstration on orchard management with Carol Fall.

2021

The 12th annual Trinity County Plant and Seed Exchange

The 12th annual Trinity County Plant and Seed Exchange, is set for Saturday April 17th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the historic Young Family Ranch in Weaverville! This year, in compliance with CDC protocols to socially distance, all who attend the event will need to sign up for a time slot by filling out the survey, or calling Elizabeth at Trinity County RCD, (530) 623-6004 ext 10! Community members can bring cuttings, seeds, and plants to share at no cost with all who attend. New gardeners are encouraged to participate even if no contribution is made. All plants will need to be dropped off between Monday, April 12th and 3pm on Friday, April 16th. Plants must be free of disease and pests. Be sure to check and clean the bottoms of your pots for slugs, earwigs and other hitchhikers before bringing to the exchange.

Master Gardener Training

January 18- May 17, 2017 Wednesdays, 6:00 pm til 8:50 pm Young Family Ranch 260 Oregon Street, Weaverville
You’ll receive over 50 hours of training in 17 classes, covering:

  • Botany, plant disease, weeds, insects & pest management
  • Soils, composting and vermiculture
  • Irrigation design, water conservation and turf management
  • Drought-tolerant, native plant & fire-resistant landscaping
  • Fruit, berry, vineyard & vegetable gardening
  • Permaculture, pollinators, pruning and much more

This training is being offered as a 3 credit course by Shasta College (AGEH 60). Call the Weaverville Campus at 623-2231 for information about registering and fees.

2016 BBQ & Fundraiser
Come enjoy an evening of live music, good food and good times on Saturday September 24 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. The Young Family Ranch is at 260 Oregon Street, Weaverville.
This special event will help fund Ranch maintenance, add to the finishing of the new outdoor pavilion and support the many community programs hosted at the Ranch. In addition to a tasty main dish grilled by the Clampers, the menu will include salads and local vegetables, plus the cupcake exchange that was so popular last year. Beverages will include soda and water and a selection of Sierra Nevada Brewing Company brews will be on hand for tasting.
Volunteers and local musicians interested in helping at this family-friendly event please contact Donna at the Trinity County RCD at 623-6004.
The event is sponsored by Sierra Nevada Brewing Company, Weaverville Farmers Market and E Vitus Clampus Chapter 62.

2015 Inaugural Young Family Ranch Brews and BBQ Fund Raiser
Saturday, June 27, 5:30 - 9:30 p.m. at the Young Family Ranch, 260 Oregon Street, Weaverville
(just past the Nazarene Church). A family friendly event with live music, lawn games, and a silent auction!
$12 each in advance, $15 at the door OR $23 with Pint Keepsake Glass and 3 tasters.
Children: 5 & Under Free; Ages 6-12 $5 ea
