On April 20, 2004 we (Patrick Truman, Pat Frost and Colleen O’Sullivan) traveled down to Sacramento with Francis Berg and Charlie Wright of the Redding BLM staff to meet with Mike Pool, state Director of BLM.  We met with Mike and two of his staff members for over an hour, and presented our concept of a community forest.  The state office was receptive to and supportive of our vision for the 700 acres, and they gave us specific direction towards the next steps necessary to make this idea a reality.  These steps are: a community meeting that solicits community goals and vision for the forest, a business plan that outlines administrative and management responsibilities, a Non-Industrial Timber Management Plan, and an outline of possible funding mechanisms.

We were very encouraged by our meeting with Mike Pool and his associates, and we are hopeful that we can complete the necessary steps to make this community forest a reality.  We thank both the Sacramento and Redding BLM staff for their courtesy, professionalism and assistance in this endeavor.
