Trinity County RCD obtained a four year, $675,000 grant from the State Water Quality Control Board which runs from 2007 through 2010. Project work consists primarily of the implementation of sediment reduction projects through road decommissioning, road upgrades, revegetation and fuels reduction. Additional work consists of an education and outreach element that includes facilitation of the Trinity River Watershed Council, the formation of a “Creek Watch” volunteer monitoring program, as well as project effectiveness monitoring.

 

Trinity River Watershed: $225,000

  • Upgrade 29 miles of road on BLM land near Helena including Brock Gulch Road, Valdor Gulch Road and Rich Gulch Road.

  •  
  • Upgrade 8 miles of USFS roads in the Pettijohn Area near Trinity Dam.

  •  
  • Revegetation of 900 acres of BLM and USFS lands in the Lowden Fire (Lewiston area) and Oregon Fire (Weaverville area) areas.

  •  
  • Fuels Reduction on 200 acres on BLM land within the Weaverville Community Forest.

  •  
  • Education and outreach including facilitation of the Trinity River Watershed Council.

  •  
  • Organize a volunteer “Creek Watch” program with students and community members.

  •  
  • Project effectiveness monitoring.

South Fork Watershed: $450,000

Removal of Fill
  • Decommission 11miles of road in the East Fork-Smoky Compartments of the South Fork Trinity on USFS managed lands.

  •  
  • Decommission 4.5 miles of miles of road in the Hidden Valley Compartment of the South Fork Trinity on USFS managed lands.

  •  
  • Decommission 0.5 miles of road in the Happy Camp Compartment of the South Fork Trinity on USFS managed lands.

  •  
  • Upgrade 10 miles in the Hidden Valley Compartment of the South Fork Trinity on USFS managed lands.

  •  
  • Education and outreach.

  •  
  • Project effectiveness monitoring.
