Committed to sound management of Natural Resources on Public and Private lands.

Mission Statement

To assist in protecting, managing, conserving, and restoring the natural resources of Trinity County through information, education, technical assistance, and project implementation programs.

Vision Statement

Trinity County Resource Conservation District envisions a balance between utilization and conservation of our natural resources. Through economic diversity and ecosystem management, our communities will achieve and sustain a quality environment and healthy economy.

While our program areas are listed individually below, our departments and staff regularly reach across program lines to ensure the long-term sustainability of our mission. This integrated approach within our organization provides the foundation for the collaborative quality of District interactions with all of our partner agencies and stakeholders.

Agriculture

RCD’s throughout California strive to support their local agricultural initiatives. The Trinity County RCD supports local sustainable agriculture through promoting Best Management Practices, rentals of the no-till drill and the apple cider press, working with the Young Family Ranch, and events. It is a goal to expand this program in the future.

Education and Outreach

The Trinity County RCD education and outreach program covers everything from specific educational programs, to support of multi-agency events designed to reach the broadest possible audience. The Trinity County RCD takes pride in environmental education with children to encourage a lifetime of connection to nature, natural resource conservation, and environmental stewardship.

Forest Health

The Trinity County RCD’s forest health program focuses on protecting homes, assisting in fire suppression efforts, and improving vital forest ecosystems. Project planning and implementation include: fuels reduction, chipping services, Weaverville Community Forest stewardship, collaboration with the Trinity County Fire Safe Council, and support and implementation of the Trinity County Community Wildfire Protection Plan.

Native Habitat Restoration

The native habitat restoration program incorporates management of non-native invasive plant species, operation and management of the Trinity County RCD native plant nursery, and native plant rehabilitation including rehabilitation of sites after wildfires and illegal cannabis trespass grows. This program supports healthy forests and watersheds for all of Trinity County.

Organization

In efforts to support conservation, protection, and restoration of natural resources the Trinity County RCD has adopted goals and objectives to target priority resource challenges and opportunities. It is necessary for the District to have an organizational plan to support the Trinity County RCD mission and vision.

Programmatic Support Services

The foundational component of the Trinity County RCD’s programmatic support services is the Geographic Information System (GIS) program. This program focuses on map-making, coupled with heavy data management. All of which supports natural resource projects, outreach projects, and other opportunities for the Trinity County community.

Recreation

To support recreation in Trinity County, the RCD adopted the role of the lead agency for the Weaver Basin Trail System (WBTS), and are stewards of the Weaverville Community Forest (WCF) which are both community projects. The RCD facilitates funding, trail maintenance, and creation of the WBTS map. The RCD actively manages forest health projects for the WCF.

Watershed Management

The intention of the District’s watershed management program is to improve forest health, habitats, ecosystems, and water quality in collaboration with public and private partners. Project focuses include, but are not limited to: road decommissioning, road upgrade, stream and habitat restoration, watershed planning and coordination, and trespass cannabis grow site and illegal dumping cleanup.
